Racoons are omnivores and are not picky when their feed is concerned. In the wild they eat small animals, such as worms, crayfishes, molluses, frogs, small mammals up to the size of a hare, lizards, fishes, larvae and even snakes.
Racoons also eat the eggs and the young of birds and turtles. Racoons love fruit, such as apples, plums and berries. But they also enjoy corn, potatoes, acorns and grains. They even rummage the rubbish of people. Because of this, they sometimes cause some nuisance.

In zoos, racoons are fed with dry dog food, chicks and fruit. Racoons living indoors need additional vitamin D in their daily feed.
